Education

The Nord Family Foundation recognizes a solid educational experience as a cornerstone of a strong community.  In this spirit, the Foundation supports projects that provide educational opportunities and seek to increase the quality of existing educational systems.

Accordingly, the Foundation has maintained a commitment to whole school reform efforts, supporting the work of the Center for Leadership in Education. The Center provides a forum where teachers, administrators, and parents from public and private schools can discuss the critical issues of school reform, and begin the process of turning discussion into school policy and practice.  The Center’s sophisticated technological capacities are helping to usher into the classroom new ways of teaching and learning.

The foundation supports a number of smaller non-public schools that serve youngsters whose needs are not being appropriately met by the public school system.

Recognizing a need to increase learning opportunities and further promote access to emerging technologies, the Foundation made a grant to Center for Applied Special Technology in support of the Family and Community Literacy Project.  This project, with national applications, reinforces the role of parents as primary teachers of the children as it equips parents and their children with the skills to learn from computer technologies.
